Service Above Self
Academic Scholarship for High School Seniors
Objective:
To provide a four year $1,000 award to a deserving high school senior from Narragansett, South Kingstown and Prout high schools. The recipient(s) lifestyle should represent the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self. The award money is to be used for continuing education in a four year program at a college or university.
Eligibility:
Students applying to a four-year college or University may apply. Proof of acceptance will be required before receiving the scholarship.
Students must be a resident of South Kingstown or Narragansett.
Criteria:
The students applying for the scholarship will be judged primarily on the characteristic of service to others.
Service:
The student should exhibit the quality of providing service to others by giving of his or her time to individuals or projects which serve to enhance the welfare of others. It should be evident that the student participated in such activities without expectation of reward. Examples of such service may be work with the elderly, infirm, persons with disabilities, scouting, church or youth groups. Or, the student may be involved in extracurricular activities that are of benefit to the school or students in general.
Scholarship, Need, Leadership, and School Activities are secondary criteria which may be the deciding factors between candidates.
