ROTARY CLUB READY FOR 28TH

NARRAGANSETT ART FESTIVAL

The Rotary Club of Wakefield expects over 85 artists in the Fine Art to participate in the 28th Narragansett Art Festival, on June 26 and 27, 2010 at Veterans’ Park adjacent to the historic Towers in Narragansett.  The event is open to the public, at no charge, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Artists will be exhibiting their works in oils and acrylics, watercolors and pastels, drawings and graphics, photography, sculpture, and 3-dimensional media. Caricature artist Bill Dougal will be there for a quick personal portrait and Deb O'Connor can make a handcut silhouette of your favorite profile. A panel of judges will designate awards in each category on Saturday morning.

Pianist Sergei Novikov will perform on both days, sharing some familiar and beautiful tunes as well as his own compositions, and offering his many CD's for purchase. The Poetry Origami Project will also be there to share free poetry "books" as an added and complimentary feature to the display of original art.

The new and Free Southern RI Trolley will be making stops at the Festival field throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday so patrons can avoid the never-ending struggle to find a parking place in Narragansett Pier, especially on a good beach day!  The  two hour loop service runs thru South Kingstown and Narragansett from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m and makes fifteen stops on loop. The Route begins and ends at the Holiday Inn in South Kingstown with stops at Wakefield Mall and Salt Pond Plaza as well as plenty of other locations. For more information call Narragansett Chamber of Commerce or the South Kingstown Chamber of Commerce.

Net proceeds from this annual event are designated for the Rotary Club’s four-year scholarship and two year vocational scholarship programs for South Kingstown, Narragansett, and Prout High School students.
