Rotary Club of Wakefield Service Above Self Academic Scholarship for High School Seniors
Objective:
To provide a four year $1,000 annual award to a deserving high school senior attending South Kingstown, Narragansett and Prout High Schools and reside in either Narragansett or South Kingstown. The recipients should most represent the ROTARY motto of “Service Above Self”, and the money is to be used for education at a four year college or university.
Eligibility:
Students applying to a four-year college or University may apply. Proof of acceptance will be required before receiving the scholarship.
Students must be a resident of South Kingstown or Narragansett.
Criteria:
The students applying for the scholarship will be judged primarily on the characteristic of service to others.
Service:
The student should exhibit the quality of providing service to others by giving of his or her time to individuals or projects which serve to enhance the welfare of others. It should be evident that the student participated in such activities without expectation of reward. Examples of such service may be work with the elderly, infirm, persons with disabilities, scouting, church or youth groups. Or, the student may be involved in extracurricular activities that are of benefit to the school or students in general.
Scholarship and Need are secondary criteria which may be the deciding factors between candidates. Although not required, community service, school involvement or classroom leadership will by considered a bonus by the committee.
