Thank you for entrusting your 2014-2015 Officers, Directors, Assistant Directors and Committee Chairs to lead the Rotary Club of Wakefield this year.
When I joined Rotary in 2008 with my husband, Sezgin, my goal was to be a good Rotarian and support my Club in the best possible manner. Now, in 2014 here I am, your President.
Thank you for your confidence and allowing me to serve our Club as your leader.
Gary C.K. Huang, President of Rotary International, 2014-2015, states that “Rotary is an organization that has something for everyone. All over the world, in cities and towns, for well over a century Rotarians have come together to serve.” President Huang is asking all of us to light up Rotary by sharing our service, strengthening our clubs and letting our light shine in our communities.”
Rotary International’s goals are our goals – bringing in new members, retaining our current members, connecting to our communities through Rotary Service Day, and Interact Clubs, which Jerry Foley is working to implement, and Rotaract, which Beth Leconte was able to help start up at the University of Rhode Island. We will also continue to work on the worldwide effort to eradicate polio alongside our partner the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This sounds very ambitious and a lot of work, but Our Motto is “Service Above Self”.
This Rotary club has served our local community by granting educational scholarships to our youth and charitable giving where needed. We have and will continue to support our international community through youth exchange, international water purification projects ranging from Guatemala to Cambodia and let’s not forget the donation of goats in Malawi and our work with women in the Congo. Starting with our Art Festival in June, which Chair Ed McLoughlin and his committee are doing a wonderful job on and with our Balloon Festival, July 18,19,20, with Chair Sean McIntyre and the whole club, this year of fun, family and fellowship is getting off to a great start.
Thank you Don and your board for all you have accomplished.
We will continue to cooperate, communicate, and commit to Rotary's growth.
Yours in Rotary
C. Elizabeth Candas
